School Council
AIM:
- To give all students an element of responsibility in deciding how certain areas of the School should be organised.
OBJECTIVES:
- To become aware that their ideas are valued and worth implementing;
- To gain in confidence;
- To understand the procedure of formal meetings.
The School Council gives students the opportunity to sit and discuss important issues with senior staff. Their ideas and suggestions are taken very seriously and many have been implemented during the last six years.
A two step change to the school council system is taking place at The Gregg School in order that more students can become involved in the decisions that affect their daily lives. The first step, which is in the process of happening, is the introduction of four 'Working Groups' with specific areas of responsibility.
The groups are as follows:
The Eco group - Environmental impact of the school.
The Charity group - Charitable occasions and fund-raising
The Wellbeing group - non-curricular school life
The Curriculum group - Educational developments
These groups are open to anyone who applies to Mr Jackson and will have 'attached' prefects. The groups form the lower chamber of this new bicameral system, and each of these groups will have a
representative on the new upper chamber of the School Council. This is the second step and will be taking shape from the beginning of next year. The new structure should make it possible for students to increase their voice on a variety of issues and, with the fantastic ideas students are capable of, help the school innovate and grow!
