Drama Clubs
We have two Drama Clubs in School - one for the lower school (Years 7,8 and 9) and one for the upper school (Years 10 and 11).
The Junior Club meets once a week in a lunchtime session. Each year, members of the group write and perform a play with a particular theme. A production of the play is performed to students at St. Winifred's School.
Apart from the production itself, there are a number of other activities during the year including improvisation, performance skills and working from scripted material.
The Senior Club meets once a week after school. For the first part of the Autumn term, participants read through the play (or plays) chosen for the annual school production. They then choose a part to practise in preparation for auditions.
Once parts have been allocated, rehearsals begin, continuing until the summer production, which last year was "The Government Inspector" and "The Cinderella Story".
During the Musical rehearsal period, there are usually fewer play rehearsals as many students have parts in both. Year 10 students are expected to come to evening rehearsals during their Work Experience fortnight, while those in Year 11 must make sure they are free to attend rehearsals and performances after they have finished their GCSE examinations.
The annual Musical, held at the end of term, is a highlight of the school year for many. During the week in which this occurs, students from every year group unite to display their talents as actors, singers, dancers and instrumentalists, as well as in the design and technical aspects of the productions and in choreography.
Many of the famous Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals feature, including last year's production of "The King and I" which was staged at The Plaza Theatre, Romsey. In March 2010, students performed "My Fair Lady" in School.

Other productions in the past include "Me and My Girl", "The Sound of Music", "Half a Sixpence", "Annie Get Your Gun", "Carousel", "Crazy for You" and "Oklahoma!".
Students studying GCSE Drama are regularly assessed on their performances for technical and design contributions, a number having been awarded high marks reflecting both talent and diligence.
The Musical is a project which brings together students, staff, parents and friends of the School; it has proved to be a highly worthwhile and rewarding activity.
